BERKELEY – Police are still searching for at least seven masked robbers who, armed with guns and sledgehammers, stole $500,000 worth of items from a jewelry store Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The robbery occurred at around 2:07 p.m. Saturday at the Bombay Jewelry Company, 1042 University Ave. Police said seven to eight masked suspects, some with guns, forcibly entered the store as part of a “coordinated robbery.”

The suspects smashed display cases with sledgehammers and threatened and controlled staff and customers with firearms, police said.

The suspects stole jewelry worth about $500,000 and fled in two vehicles, authorities said.

Detailed descriptions of the robbers were not published.
