Curious to know which US airport is among the top 10 airports in the world? A new report was just released that rates and ranks international airports – and one of our lesser-known American airports is in the top 10! The AirHelp Score Report 2024, compiled by air passenger rights company Airhelp, provides an in-depth look at the world’s airports, ranking them on punctuality, quality of service, dining and shopping options, and claims handling for passengers whose journey doesn’t go smoothly.

The company used data from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024, and surveyed passengers about their recent experience at an airport. The leading international airport, according to the report, is Doha Homad Airport in Qatar (and the next two are in South Africa and Japan, respectively). There is only one American airport on the list, and it ranks 8th.

It’s not the big hub you might expect: It’s Salt Lake City International Airport! It’s a clean, bright airport with plenty of art to enliven passengers, and its runways and terminal windows offer views of Utah’s beautiful mountains, the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges. The three-year-old “New SLC” is an entirely new airport with a wide variety of restaurants and shops. The airport is in the midst of a $5.1 billion redevelopment plan, with two of four phases completed, and it seems like that attention is paying off with passengers.

According to the airport’s website, it is the 21st busiest airport in the United States and the 70th busiest in the world. Its three airline runways and one general aviation runway handle more than 300 flights a day to 90 nonstop destinations. Last year, the airport handled a record 26,952,754 passengers.
