Update on Fresno Airport expansion with addition of new international flight

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Momentum continues to build for Fresno Yosemite International Airport after the airport and the City of Fresno announced a new seasonal nonstop daytime flight to Fresno’s sister city of Guadalajara, Mexico.

The flight, operated by Alaska Airlines, will be the first domestic flight from FAT and will operate from December 3 to February 12, 2025.

“The opening of this international flight by Alaska Airlines is a big deal for the city of Fresno, especially because it will not be an overnight flight. The flight will depart at 7 a.m.,” said the mayor of Fresno. Jerry Dyer.

Dyer says the flight to Guadalajara adds two more overnight flights to and from the Mexican city, and he says it will provide an accessible alternative to one of FAT’s busiest travel routes during the holiday season.

“In Guadalajara alone, we had over 238,000 passenger flights last year. So we are growing, and fast,” said Dyer.

On the topic of growth, work continues to progress on the airport’s $147 million terminal expansion. Just past security, construction crews can be seen working on the new wing of the airport.

It’s not allowed see I like a lot of things at the moment, but according to the airport that will change very soon.

“In the coming weeks we will see steel coming out of the ground and foundations being laid. So the project is underway and moving forward,” said Vikkie Calderon, FAT’s media and public relations officer.

The expansion will be visible immediately after security and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2025. Mayor Dyer says it will allow the airport to triple its international flight capacity and increase the number of domestic flights available, both business and leisure.

“From a business perspective, I would love to see us have a direct flight to Orange County. From a leisure perspective, I would love to see us have a direct flight to Hawaii and Cabo,” he said.

In addition, the airport’s latest expansion will expand and improve airport security.

A passenger said that was the key.

“Whatever they come up with, as long as they push the boundaries,” she said.
