It looks like Minnesota’s biggest candy store plans have taken a U-turn

About a year ago, I planned a secret family trip for my kids. Life with teenagers can be challenging with schedules, so I put an event on our shared Google calendar that said “Secret…no planning this time.” My firstborn daughter, who checks our calendar the most, immediately asked what it was about and wanted to know the details. I, also a firstborn, showed her my stubborn side and told everyone in my family that they would find out when we got there…and that they would love this secret adventure, too.

Our secret adventure for the day was a place called Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store, 20430 Johnson Memorial Dr, Jordan, MN 55352 (directions here). The only word I can use to describe it is “epic.” My kids loved it! Luckily, I learned about a few quirks of this store ahead of time. If you’ve never been, read the tips below so you’re fully prepared.

Is Minnesota’s largest candy store moving to a new location?

You probably heard the news in April when word got out that Minnesota’s largest candy store would have to move to a new location. The reason for the move was the upcoming grade-separated intersection project on Highway 169. Having a road and access to your store is vital to success, and unfortunately, this project would completely cut off access to the store from the highway.

TURN! As we learned first in Friends and again during the pandemic, in life too, it’s important to be able to adapt. In the case of Minnesota’s largest candy store, the plan was to relocate to a new location east of the Jordan Supper Club and Tap Room as part of a land swap.

That was the plan. It sounds like the legendary candy store will have to change direction again.

Sounds like Minnesota’s largest candy store isn’t moving

KARE 11 reported today that soil tests have been conducted at the proposed new location for Minnesota’s largest candy store, but unfortunately the property is “not suitable” for the new construction.

TURN! Once again, the famous candy store with the marigold-colored fence is changing its plans. According to the news report, it will stay where it is for now.

If there are any new developments, I’ll post them on my Facebook page – Jessica On The Radio. In the meantime, if you haven’t visited Minnesota’s largest candy store yet, add it to your family calendar by typing “Secret…no plans this time.” No matter how frustrated your firstborn is, trust me, he’ll forget all about this once he inhales all the sugar in the air.
