A woman trying to get to her burning Huntington Park home said a police officer punched her multiple times in the face and it was captured on cellphone video.

It happened on July 4, when Adriana Hernandez says her family’s entire home was engulfed in flames. While the video initially shows police officers signaling for people to move away from the scene, Adriana is seen on screen moving toward the house before being pushed back by police officers.

The officer is later seen apparently hitting Hernandez while other officers are holding her down. She says the officer hit her in the face three times in total.

“You know who stepped forward? The community. And I’m really grateful for that, because if it wasn’t for them, the situation would probably be even worse,” she told KCAL on Wednesday. “And if it wasn’t for that video, it would probably be even worse.”

Hernandez and her family are now staying with a friend and looking for a new home. But that new home will not be in Huntington Park, a place Hernandez said is too scary for her family to stay in any length of time. She added that she is in contact with lawyers about taking legal action.

The city of Huntington Park says the incident is currently under investigation.
